Orientir is an assistive app for blind and low-vision people. We collect as little data as possible and never sell it. There are no ads and no third-party analytics in the app.
Obstacle detection runs entirely on your phone. Camera frames are processed on the device and are not sent anywhere. When you tap “Describe scene” or “Read text”, one photo is sent to Google Gemini (via our server) to generate a spoken answer. We do not store these photos. Google processes them under the Gemini API terms.
Location is used only when you search for a place, build a route, follow a route or tap “Where am I?”. Coordinates and your search text are sent to OpenStreetMap services (Nominatim for addresses, OSRM for walking routes). We do not store your location or route history.
The app sends our server a pseudonymous device ID: a one-way hash of the Android ID that Android issues separately for each app. It is not linked to your name, phone number, email or advertising ID and cannot be used to track you across other apps. Our server uses it only to count daily cloud requests (10 free per day), to prevent abuse of the free limit and to link a Premium subscription or partner code to your device. It stays the same if you reinstall the app and changes after a factory reset.
Subscriptions are processed by Google Play. We receive only a purchase token to verify that the subscription is active; we never see your payment details.
On our server (Cloudflare): the device ID, the number of cloud requests per day, the first IP address of an installation (to prevent abuse), Premium status and its end date, and partner-code redemptions. We keep usage counters for up to 90 days.
Your settings (language, vibration strength, sounds, frame rate) and the acceptance of the safety notice are stored only on your phone.
The app is not directed at children under 13.
All network connections use HTTPS. Access to the server is protected by an application token and per-device limits.
You can stop all data processing by uninstalling the app. To request deletion of server data linked to your device ID, contact us at the address below.
We will update this page if the app starts processing data differently. The date at the top shows the latest version.
